After a 2-2 draw between Arsenal and Liverpool in Anfield, Jamie Carragher made noticeable comments about the future of coach Mikel Arteta. The former Liverpool player warned that the pressure was increasing with the Spanish strategist, as the Gunners entered the fifth season in a row without winning any title.
Arsenal officially stopped the chance of winning the Premier League after Liverpool as early as four rounds. Earlier, they were eliminated by Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League semi-finals, eliminated by Newcastle in the semi-finals of the League Cup and stopped right from the FA Cup’s third round when they lost to Manchester United.
Witnessing the frustrated results, Carragher said: “The feeling of this season should be Arsenal. No doubt, next season the pressure will be huge for Mikel Arteta in having to win a title – and must be a big title.”
Carragher said that the Arsenal Board of Directors will be in a difficult position if the team continues to be empty -handed, because they do not want to replace the coach but will face pressure from the public: “Arsenal leadership, if they do not win a big title, will have serious problems.
However, Carragher also admitted to changing the coach at this time as a big gamble: “Arsenal can completely become the current Chelsea – from a continuous team to the second year into a team even unable to win tickets to the Champions League.”
In addition, Carragher was not satisfied with the way Arteta reacted after the Liverpool draw, saying that the coach “once again spoke as a supporter.”
